No extension in date for e-filing of sales tax returns

KARACHI (January 15 2006): The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) will not extend the date for filing of sales tax and federal excise returns electronically, and the last date for filing of these returns is Monday, January 16, 2006.

Officials told Business Recorder on Saturday that although the last date for e-filing of returns is January 15, but due to its falling on Sunday, it is understood as per law that next working would be the last date for filing of returns, which is Monday.

Officials said that extension given last month for e-filing of returns was on one-time basis and there was no such thing this time.

“Legal action would be taken against those, who fail to e-file the returns on Monday”, Collector Sales Tax Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) Karachi Tahir Zaman said.

There was speculation that due to Eid holidays, the CBR might extend the date for e-filing of sales tax and federal excise returns. “There is no such thing happening this time and the last date for filing of the returns is Monday”, Tahir said when asked about any extension because of Eid holidays.
